Marco’s confusion, self-doubt, and moral certainty which becomes more uncertain as time goes on are all realistically and entertainingly portrayed.

Marc is a young man who suffers from panic attacks, hates work, coombat change, loves photography, adores his pet cat, and feels profoundly and obsessively betrayed by a former friend who wasn’t at all what he seemed. It’s a great effect, that allows us to project ourselves into the simplistic cartoon style, yet become immersed in a detailed and living world. In the book, the photographer-protagonist, Marc, visits the small town dock where his dad used to work as a stevedore. There is the neighbor with the shotgun and the private property signs, and there is the weird, silent one who just kind of shows up and eats Marco’s food.
