I was glad to learn I was on to something. The core of the book is chapter 8, which explains how to do mfditate of eleven different kinds.
New age religion folk have their twist, yogis have their twist, Christians have their elshan, etc. If you want to know how to meditate, this is a good book to pick up. The book covers ideas from most of if not all religious denominations that have made major contributions to meditation and through them the author discusses commonalities and their overall common goal.
I read this after taking a meditation class and really enjoyed meditating but haven’t managed to keep it up.
It begins with a chapter on why ho should meditate. Great book if you want a balanced view of different paths to meditation.
The last two chapters and the Afterword seem to have been added for the twin-fold purpose of hitting a target page count and to add a couple of niche audiences—namely students of psychology and fans of Edgar N. This book takes a brief but very detailed look at meditation. Find a comfortable position – sittintg, laying or standing – set a timer for fifteen minutes and begin.
