The book handles it’s job as Act Two very well, but because it is what it is, there is a feeling of things unfinished that is dissatisfying. Getting that information expressly in lectures and monologues rather than having the lead experience it herself is more rchardson than not a missed opportunity. I’m all in for the next book and I feel justified for jumping the gun and buying every release. Chapter breaks occur in the middle of the action, while more natural breaks are grreywalker ignored.
But Harper is not the only one investigating. She has become one of the rare people who can physically exist in our world and in the supernatural world, which is called the Grey.

Eight years later I finally read it. And the Seattle of Greywalker Once again, the cover struck me first.
There’s also an interesting enough love interest to spice things up, but is not the focus of the book. If it walks like a duck Richardson does have a flavourful take on it, and her version of the spirit world accompanies her prose in an effective, descriptive way. It seems like Men are from Noir and Women are from Romance. And it’s set in Seattle – which would ordinarily be great, except that even as someone who lives in Seattle, I can tell you that this is one vast injoke of locations and happenings that people outside Seattle won’t enjoy.
I did find it a little strange how often rgeywalker did things for free. She rides a motorcycle, shoots target pistol, and does not own a TV. She’s a practical PI and at know point does Richardson try to glorify Harper. Overall, I can recommend this book if you’re looking for something relatively light, AND not sick to death of vampires.
I geywalker notice this with Harper, in that she strikes up a date with an auctioneer she meets in passing, notes that she wants to keep things low-key until the case she’s working on ends, and the book makes it clear that he’s not True Love, or even that Harper is going to meet some guy and do the mode switch like that. They exist in an alternate plane known as the Grey and Harper is a greywalker, a mortal who can cross planes. I have a soft spot for animals, and my sister owned a ferret for years when we were kids.
The supernatural is naturally attracted to her because they believe she is “one of them” and can assist them with unfulfilled quests and desires. She’s a PI but uses a pager and doesn’t have richarsdon cell phone? Richardson has earned a loyal and appreciative fan base, that return again and again to delve into her books that contain a rare fusion of the supernatural and detective works.

Richardson captured several elements of that sequence that are apt for a female leading character in particular, getting her hair caught in the elevator that might not occur to a male writer. Kat Richardson continues her series in much the same way, exposing her heroine to many life threatening and enthralling situations in different settings, all with a different case that only she can solve.
